Middle School counselors met with all current 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the past 2 weeks discussing course selection for the 2020-21 school year. This is always an exciting time to talk with students about the courses they will take and about how they continue to grow in their academic success at the middle level and for those 8th graders transitioning to high school.
For our 5th graders, we addressed student fears, questions, and acknowledged their excitement as they begin thinking about becoming a middle schooler in the next 7 months. The students in 5th grade were so pleasant and wonderful to present to and we are looking forward to having them in the middle level in the Fall. We are so lucky to have such great students at Eldorado who are looking forward to exploring their academic journey as well as developing skills to learn more about themselves and how to interact with others. All students received a “Course Selection form” which is color-coded by grade level. Students, teachers, and parent/guardian(s) have been instructed to work together to complete the form to make the best decision for the student’s academic success. All forms are to be returned by the date published on the top of the form. If you have not seen a form from your student please ask them and if you need an additional copy please contact Ms. Queen (registrar) or find a copy here on our STUDENT DOCUMENTS page, under STUDENTS. This year at Eldorado, we have been looking for new ways to connect middle level and elementary level students. Our counselors worked together to pair each elementary classroom with a middle level advisory "buddy" class. On the second Wednesday of the month, the middle school students and the elementary students meetup to work on an activity together and build connections. Classes have been doing activities around kindness, gratitude, "bucket filling", and many more fun activities! Our hope is that these meet ups will help encourage middle school students to be good role models and will give elementary students mentors within their school building. This is also a great way to connect our middle and elementary teachers. We hope to continue the Buddy Classroom tradition at Eldorado and continue to build connections between all of our PK-8 students and staff!
